The third Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC single-make series in 2012

After the stunning success of the first two series, the third Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC will include events on some of the most famous circuits in motor-racing.

In 2012, competitors will battle it out on the Infineon Raceway, in California (USA), and on the F1 circuit in Shanghai, China.

David Baldi eventually came out on top in the second Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC, held in 2011. The title race was close from start to finish in an evenly matched series that attracted the best gentleman drivers on the international scene. Baldi, from Tuscany, deserved his overall win after leading from the very first race at Imola and holding on until the very end. After Imola, the championship moved on to Monza, Budapest (Hungary), Spa (Belgium), Donington (Great Britain) and Valencia (Spain) before coming back to Italy and Vallelunga. The grand finale was held at Mugello to round off a series run on some of Europe’s most prestigious tracks. In the Team classification, the title went to AF Corse in a car crewed by Alessandro Chionna, from Italy, and Cedric Sbirrazzuoli, from Monte Carlo.

Technical Director of Formula 1 Red Bull Racing, Adrian Newey, was a well-known name who took part in the last round of the Trofeo Maserati GranTurismo MC. He shared the drive with his friend Joe Macari and the two later competed in the 6 Hours of Rome in a Maserati MC12 set up by Vittoria Competizione.

Switching continents, the test sessions held in Dubai on 19-20 November, kick-started the Trofeo Maserati JBF Rak Middle East. This new championship will be run exclusively in the Middle East and feature the Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo in a six-event series. Things will get underway with two races in Bahrain, on 3 December and on 7 January. Next up is Yas Marina (27 January), Losail (17 February), Dubai (3 March), with the final round run at Yas Marina (23 March).
